Like a scattering of jewels across the St Lawrence River, The
1000 Islands is one of Canada's best-kept recreational secrets.
It is the smallest and one of the most beautiful of Canada's National
Parks. The 1000 Islands recreational area extends from Kingston
to Brockville on the Canadian side of the river and from Cape
Vincent to Chippawa Bay on the American side of the river. Unlike
many other recreational areas it is easily accessed by air, road
and/or rail from most major cities in Ontario, Quebec and the
eastern the United States.
It was in the 1800's that the area was discovered as a recreational
playground and many large summer homes were built. Today there
are still some of the great old houses as well as many wonderful
newer ones. Unlike many other recreational areas the Islands have
not been spoiled with over-development and uncontrolled growth.
In fact the views from my island have changed very little over
the last 40 years. In addition to fabulous water sports and boating
the area includes numerous golf courses and several fine theaters
Island and waterfront properties are often handed down from generation
to generation and as a result properties available for sale are
scarce and often sell quickly. If you are interested in more information
about the islands and what properties are available for sale please
contact me.
Charleston Lake
Charleston Lake is a large (about 6,000 acres), deep (in some
places more than 400 feet) lake with about 120 islands of varying
size. The surrounding area is rich in history. It was settled
in the early 1700s. In the early 1800's, around the war of 1812,
a number of United Empire Loyalists moved north from the now United
States to start a new life. For over 100 years it the area has
had a reputation as a wonderful vacation spot for families and
fishermen alike. The lake is renown for its bass and lake trout
fishing and its tranquility. It is accessible by road, via Highway
401 and Interstate 81, and rail and air from both Canada and the
United States, via airports in Brockville and Kingston.
Much of the land surrounding the lake is an Ontario
Provincial Park. For many years now the Provincial Government
on behalf of Charleston Lake Provincial Park and The Charleston
Lake Association have been working together to preserve the natural
and cultural elements of the area. Charleston Lake is a special
place. Come and see for yourself.
